01 · Explained

Routing number, for a founder abroad.

A routing number, also called an ABA number, identifies the bank behind an account. Together with the account number, it's everything a US client needs to pay your company by ACH. Fintechs such as Mercury give you their partner bank's routing number.

Some banks use a different routing number for wires than for ACH, so copy both from the bank's own account details page. Payments from outside the US need a SWIFT code instead.
