Freelance work for clients abroad
A US company and its US account are assets abroad, which need the Office des Changes' authorisation. Being paid as a freelancer in Morocco may be simpler.

For Moroccan founders who need Stripe, a US contracting party or dollar invoicing. Stripe doesn't serve Morocco, and founders here can apply to Mercury, which decides each application. But the Office des Changes' 2026 Instruction makes owning a company and an account abroad a matter for its authorisation, so read that section first.
Launch + Wyoming filing; the tax return is separate.Checked by Saais Patel, compliance reviewer.
At a glance
Mercury takes applications from founders living in Morocco. Wise gives no USD account details there.
The banks, in detailUS law lets you form a US LLC from Morocco remotely, without an SSN, and founders here can apply to Mercury, which decides each application. Launch starts at $351.40 in Wyoming, including our plan and state filing fee. Morocco is the catch. The Office des Changes' 2026 Instruction keeps assets and accounts abroad held by resident Moroccans under its authorisation, so settle that before you fund a company or open an account.
Before you form
Wyoming LLC
Owner-run business with US Stripe, once authorised.
Delaware C-Corp
Raising from investors; the ADD startup route.
Both charges are the state's, before our plan, optional services and your advisers' fees. Wyoming sets a minimum yearly charge, and Delaware's franchise tax depends on how it's calculated. Staff, stock or premises in another state can bring obligations there. An S-corporation isn't an option, because nonresident aliens can't hold its shares.
Prepare the information
You don't need a Moroccan company to form a US LLC, but you'll need the Office des Changes' answer before funding it. The EIN is the US company's tax ID. Send identity documents through a secure request, and only the ones asked for.
How it works
The state approves the company, the IRS issues the EIN and each provider approves its own account. In Morocco, the Office des Changes decides on the authorisation and your adviser handles the tax side; we don't file there.
You and your adviser
Find the route that covers you: the Office's authorisation, a Moroccan company investing abroad, or the ADD startup route. Don't fund the company or open the account before then.
You leave this stage with: Written authorisation, or the route you rely on.
You choose; BaseAcross checks
We check the proposed name and provide the registered agent in the formation state. The registered office is for legal papers, not your operating address.
You leave this stage with: Confirmed filing details and a registered agent.
BaseAcross files; the state approves
We submit the formation filing and send you the state's documents once it's approved. The company exists from that approval.
You leave this stage with: State-approved formation documents.
BaseAcross
We draft the LLC Operating Agreement or corporate bylaws. Check every name and share against your passport before you sign.
You leave this stage with: Operating documents for your records, your bank and US providers.
BaseAcross prepares; the IRS issues
The EIN is a separate application after formation. Without an SSN or ITIN, it goes on Form SS-4 rather than the IRS's online tool.
You leave this stage with: The IRS's EIN confirmation once it's issued.
You apply; the providers review
Founders living in Morocco can apply to Mercury, which decides each application. Wise won't give you USD account details. Use the same names, addresses and business description everywhere.
You leave this stage with: An approved account, if a provider accepts the application.
You, your US preparer and your adviser
Record every payment between you and the company, where decisions were made and what the authorisation allows. Put Form 5472 and your Moroccan return on one calendar.
You leave this stage with: A yearly calendar with someone responsible for each filing.

Plans, trials and add-onsThe $309 Launch renewal example is the $249 plan renewal plus Wyoming's $60 minimum license tax. Wyoming charges the greater of that minimum or 0.0002 of the company's assets located and employed in the state, and paying online can add a processor fee. The Operate example uses the same minimum.
Prices are in US dollars. Paying online from Morocco uses your e-commerce allowance of MAD 20,000 a year; check your card's exchange rate and fees.

What changes because you live here
1 of 4: The tax treaty
The tax treaty
The US–Morocco income tax treaty is in force.
It caps US withholding on interest at 15%, on dividends at 15%, or 10% for a qualifying company shareholder, and on royalties at 10%. Pay for work you do in Morocco generally isn't US-source income, so the treaty matters less for a services business.
Office des Changes and tax
The exchange rules come from the Office des Changes' 2026 Instruction itself, in French; the tax rules from PwC's summaries. They come before the US steps below.
You and your adviser
Holding assets abroad and opening an account abroad by a resident Moroccan need the Office des Changes' authorisation.
The company
With three years of activity and audited accounts, it can invest abroad in its own line of business, through its bank.
You and the startup
With a firm commitment from foreign funders, founders may form a foreign company and contribute their shares. The startup can invest abroad up to MAD 10 million a year; income comes home within 30 days.
You
Payments for services bought online abroad come from the e-commerce allowance, MAD 20,000 a calendar year.
You and your adviser
Residents are taxed on worldwide income at up to 37%, and companies on activities carried on in Morocco.
The Instruction is in force from 1 January 2026 and replaces the 2024 edition.
What Morocco expects
Morocco taxes residents on worldwide income, and taxes companies on activities carried on in Morocco. Before either, the Office des Changes' authorisation covers owning a company and an account abroad.
Under the 2026 Instruction, a Moroccan living in Morocco needs the Office des Changes' authorisation to hold assets abroad or open an account abroad. Shares in a US company and a US bank account are both assets abroad.
The Instruction's own routes for individuals cover employee share plans and directors' qualifying shares. Moroccan companies with three years of audited activity can invest abroad, and ADD-labelled startups have their own route.
A resident can pay for things online abroad up to MAD 20,000 a calendar year from the e-commerce allowance.
Residents are taxed on worldwide income at up to 37%, unless a treaty says otherwise. You're resident if your permanent home or centre of economic interest is in Morocco, or after more than 183 days in any 365.
Companies, wherever formed, pay corporate tax on activities carried on in Morocco, and a place of management there can be a permanent establishment. A US company run from Casablanca should have an adviser look at this.
On the record
We form US companies. We aren't Moroccan tax advisers. These are the rules as they're generally published, they change, and how they apply to you depends on details this page can't know. Take this list to a tax adviser in Morocco before you order, and we'll tell you what the US forms need.
After formation
A US LLC with one foreign owner is usually a disregarded entity that files Form 5472 with a pro forma Form 1120 when it has reportable transactions with you. Money you put in, take out or are paid for your work can count even in a year without sales. The IRS penalty for not filing starts at $25,000.
For a calendar-year company, the return is usually due 15 April, and Form 7004 requests an extension before then. A C-Corp, or an LLC with more than one owner, files different returns.
Form 5472 and the pro forma 1120Keep the registered agent active and track the state's yearly charge. In Morocco, keep within what the Office des Changes authorised, and file your return with the company's income in it.
US-created companies are exempt from BOI reporting under FinCEN's current rule, effective 14 August 2026. Banks and payment providers still verify who owns the company.
| Task | Who handles it | Where the responsibility ends |
|---|---|---|
| Formation and EIN application | BaseAcross prepares and submits | The state approves formation; the IRS issues the EIN. |
| Bank and payment applications | You, with our guidance | The provider verifies the information and decides. |
| Office des Changes authorisation | You and your adviser | We provide the formation documents the application needs. |
| Moroccan income and corporate tax | You and your adviser | We provide the US company records they need. |
| Annual state filing | You, or our optional filing service | Reminders are included; managed filing and the state charge are separate. |
| US federal returns | You and your US tax preparer | Launch and Operate remind you; they don't file the return. |

US law allows it, and formation, the EIN and the bank applications all happen remotely. Morocco's side is the hard part. Under the Office des Changes' 2026 Instruction, a Moroccan living in Morocco needs its authorisation to hold assets or open an account abroad.
Usually, yes. The 2026 Instruction says holding assets abroad and opening accounts abroad by resident Moroccans stay subject to the Office's authorisation. Its own routes for individuals cover only employee share plans and directors' qualifying shares.
Two, in narrow cases. A Moroccan company with three years of activity and audited accounts can invest abroad in its own line of business. An ADD-labelled startup with a firm foreign funding commitment lets its founders form a foreign company and contribute their shares to it.
Online payments abroad come out of the e-commerce allowance, which is MAD 20,000 a calendar year for a resident individual under the 2026 Instruction. Check what you've already used this year with your bank.
Launch starts at $351.40: $249 for the plan plus $102.40 for the Wyoming filing. The plan and Wyoming's minimum yearly charge then total $309 a year. Your adviser's fees, US return preparation and Moroccan filings are separate. Wyoming's license tax can be more than its $60 minimum.
A Wyoming LLC usually suits an owner-run business selling worldwide. A Delaware C-Corp suits raising from investors, and the ADD route is built for that case. Nonresident aliens can't hold shares in an S-corporation.
Yes. Without an SSN or ITIN, the application goes on Form SS-4 instead of the IRS's online tool. We prepare it after the company is formed, and the IRS issues the number.
Each stage has its own clock. Wyoming's published turnaround is same day once a complete filing is accepted. Our ordinary EIN estimate is six to eight weeks after the application, or two to three weeks with the $199 expedited option. The Office des Changes, banks, payment providers and Stripe each set their own times. These are estimates, not promises.
Mercury doesn't bar Morocco, and its list goes by where you live, so you can apply. Opening an account abroad is still a matter for the Office des Changes. Mercury reviews each company and can decline.
Not for USD account details. Wise gives no USD details to founders living in Morocco, which isn't on its list of places where people can hold money. Relay doesn't bar Morocco, but it asks every owner for a physical US address.
For Stripe itself, usually yes. Stripe doesn't list Morocco among the countries it supports. A US LLC with an EIN and a US bank account can apply for a US Stripe account, and Stripe can decline.
It can. Companies, wherever formed, pay corporate tax on activities carried on in Morocco, and a place of management there can be a permanent establishment. Have an adviser look at a US company you run from Morocco.
Generally not. Pay for work you do in Morocco is generally not US-source income, so a single-owner LLC with no US office or staff often owes no US income tax on it. It still files Form 5472 with a pro forma Form 1120 when it has reportable transactions with you.
Yes, it's in force. It caps US withholding on interest at 15%, on dividends at 15%, or 10% for a qualifying company shareholder, and on royalties at 10%. Morocco taxes residents on worldwide income unless a treaty excludes it.
On Launch and Operate, we add deadlines and reminders; you or your accountant file the federal returns. Managed annual state compliance is an optional $149 service fee a year, with the state's charge separate. The Office des Changes application and your Moroccan returns are for you and your adviser.
US-created companies are exempt under FinCEN's current BOI rule, effective 14 August 2026. A company formed outside the US and registered to do business there is a different case. Banks still collect ownership details for their own checks.
